Despite the fact that the feds have earmarked $100 million in stimulus to save public school jobs, many schools are taking major hits due to city budget. Public schools were in need of major overhauling before the recession, who knows what will happen now. It may make some parents consider if homeschooling is a better option, especially if one parent has recently lost their job.
The summer is the BEST time to learn new things.
This will be my last entry unless we proceed homeschooling this coming new school year. And I will leave you with one wizard recipe from a fellow homeschooling site:
FIZZING PHANTOM POTION
What you need...
-glass jar or drinking glass
-bottle of white vinegar
-large platter or tray
-food colouring of your choice
-1 tablespoon baking soda in a bowl or jar
-water
1) Fill the jar or glass half full with the vinegar. (if anyone asks, tell him it's just water). Place the jar on the platter.
2) With a dramatic flourish, add some drops of the food colouring to the glass while you intone, "I command you, phantom, to make my potion bubble!"
3) Pass your hands over the baking soda, pronouncing the same command, while secretly sprinkling the soda into the vinegar. SHAZAAM! A cascade of fizz will erupt.
4) If you want to further mystify your audience, empty the jar when it's finished fizzing, refill it with real water, then invite your friend to try to duplicate your magic.
