Can't Find a Good School for Your Kids? Buy One!

What does Will Smith do when he can't find a decent school for his kids? He buys them their own.

The actor recently paid $889,000 to lease Indian Hills High School in Calabasas, Calif., after failing to find a decent educational program for his two young children. Smith and his wife, Jada Pinkett Smith, have been home schooling their brood until now. According to People:

"We started home-schooling our children probably six years ago," he said. "We found about eight or nine other parents that home-school, so we put them together. ... There's just very powerful educational concepts that we believe in, and we feel like 'I want to design the system that revolutionizes public education.' "

In 2005, Jada Pinkett-Smith told Essence that the decision behind home-schooling came from their dissatisfaction with current models of education.

"The school system in this country -- public and private -- is designed for the industrial age," she said. "We're in a technological age. We don't want our kids to memorize. We want them to learn."

Parents just don't understand, huh Will?

While most people will find it difficult to provide their kids with a school of their own, that doesn't mean you shouldn't be involved with your child's education.

Yes we're back at it again. It's March 22nd 2010 and I have had about all I can take from the school system that one can take. All I will say in this post is 'Unprofessional' behavior from grown folks- WOW. Shame on you and you know who you are. Don't except the higher pay check if you don't want to do the work that comes with the challenge, Sweetie(s)! And the other Professionals who finally contacted me after months of calling you and denying my child what he needed, thank you. Thanks for helping us to do what's best for our child and trying to give us what we asked for 5 months ago the minute you heard 'Home School' and allowing my son to suffer with folks who didn't haven't a clue pointing fingers at each other or claimed that they just didn't know what was happening. Well that's over now, and it's time to unschool and start to homeschool. It may seem like I'm angry, yeah I was. Now- not so much like before but knowing my child went through something, I won't forget. I am so grateful to be able to homeschool and be with my kids and I give Thanks to the awesome people who looked out and helped us get to this point~ "smooches".
